Gilis-Coll verloor in de kwartfinales tegen het Amerikaanse derde reekshoofd Olivia Weaver (PSA 4) met 3-0. De setstanden waren 12-10, 11-8 en 11-5. De wedstrijd duurde 46 minuten.


De 29-jarige Nele Gilis-Coll trouwde vorige zomer met de Nieuw-Zeelandse squasher Paul Coll en werkt momenteel haar wedstrijden officieel onder een dubbele achternaam af.


Zus Tinne Gilis (PSA 6), het vijfde reekshoofd, raakte donderdag ook niet voorbij de kwartfinales in Birmingham. Ze verloor met 3-0 (11-9, 11-7 en 11-3) van de Egyptische nummer een van de wereld Nouran Gohar.
